I just came back from a three days mindfulness course, working with and
training people who suffer from illness and pain, to use mindfulness
practices in order to cope better with stress, pain, and other kinds of
mental dis-eases. It is always amazing to witness again and again the
transformative power of mindfulness practice. The power of calmly witnessing or observing one's own experience,
sensations, thoughts and emotions, in the present moment.
It is amazing to see how, out of this apparently "doing nothing", such a creative power is slowly being unleashed, and such strong insights may strike us.
For people who deal with stress or any other kind of dis-ease the
insights may reveal the mental causes of their experience and/or the way
to dissolve the suffering. For those who are "just" interested in
broadening their creative abilities the practice may turn out to be a
powerful accelerator.
And one of the interesting observations about insights and strong
creative ideas is that powerful insights and ideas are actually quite
simple. One would often have a sense of "it was always there" or "how
come I didn’t think of it before?"
There is something of our mental over-business and stickiness to what we
know, that prevents us to see things in a fresh and new way.
Take a look of this new BBH London cinema stunt to promote emergency
first aid education on behalf of St. John Ambulance.
When you see the final work you feel "it is so simple", yet we haven't
come with the idea ourselves.
Mindfulness training and/or creative thinking techniques such as
Media-Happening or Resource Unification may help strong insights and
ideas strike us much more often, if not to say on-demand.
